GuyFriswell Registered Yoga TeacherHemma, Moksha, Studio 4 and Camosun College
I view teaching yoga as a joyful extension of my personal yoga practice. I’m passionate about all things yoga, and am always eager to share this passion, both one-on-one and in a class setting. I have had a regular and focused practice for nearly 8 years, both on and off of the mat. My practice is a fusion of influences, including the alignment and inward focus of the Vijnana tradition and Core Strength Vinyasa Yoga™, the yoga philosophies of Erich Schiffmann and Michael Stone, and the mental discipline of Bikram Choudhury. I am strongly committed to fostering yoga community and have a voracious yoga reading habit.
My teaching is a reflection of my personal practice – a fusion of styles and a continuing journey. I characterize my current teaching style as “Hatha-Flow” – “Hatha” meaning moving to the comfortable edge of a posture, holding it while breathing normally, and then pausing afterwards to observe the effect on mind and body; “Flow” meaning connecting all postures and transitions with appropriate breathing patterns.

Jenny believes that yoga is truly for everyone. When she began practicing Ashtanga in 2004 while attending art school in Halifax, she was just looking for a fun way to stay fit. But when she began to investigate the idea of yoga beyond the mat, she discovered its ability to cultivate clarity and acceptance in everyday
life. Teaching is a way for her to share this discovery with others; she enjoys finding humour and lightness within the rigour of Ashtanga, and creating exciting sequencing with Power Flow.
NickyJones Yoga Instructor and Co-Owner of Barefoot at Heart Yoga and WellnessBarefoot at Heart Yoga and Wellness
Nicky originally discovered yoga 12 years ago as a cure for 'dis-ease' . During difficult times, yoga became a necessary therapy to bring balance back into her life. Today, yoga is a lifestyle for Nicky. Yoga combines two of her lifelong passions of teaching and holistic wellness. She believes that teaching yoga is one of her true callings as she loves helping others to reach and maintain their own optimum wellness. Nicky’s teaching style reflects her many years of training as a dancer and figure skater. She loves to focus on the breath to guide the movement and to keep one’s attention in the present moment. Her classes find the connection between stretching, strengthening, balancing, relaxation, and just being. Because of this, the benefits reach far further than the mat, and into one’s daily life.
My first experience with yoga was following along with the TV show Yoga with Lillian as a kid. I started to get serious about yoga at the end of high school and it started having a magical effect on me. I found yoga helped me fight negative thought patterns & I was now able to see the brighter colours in the world. Yoga also gave me the space to challenge myself & my body in a non-judgemental way. My yoga practice took another leap forward when I completed The Yoga Shala’s first teacher training in 2006. In my classes I like to encourage people to practice awareness of their body, mind and emotions- taking time to notice thoughts and emotions but always coming back to the breath and connecting breath and movement. In my daily life it’s important to me to also be aware of the world around me- practicing the Yoga of Action & honouring the Warrior.
You can find me teaching Ashtanga and Yin classes at The Yoga Shala.
LoriKalef Yoga InstructorDeep Cove Yoga, Moksha, V.I.Fitness, The Jewish Community Centre
Lori began practicing yoga eight years ago. She started with a dedicated home practice, often gathering groups of friends together or practicing in the early cold mornings in Montreal, where she is from. It wasn’t until her move out west that Lori began exploring more of the essence of looking from the inside out, a philosophy that brought a new vibrancy to her practice. She wanted yoga to be more then a physical activity, instead to became a life long learning pursuit (mental, spiritual and muscular) to find her reflection on the mat. As a teacher, she shares her knowledge and learns from those around her. She flows through asanas by weaving relevant themes and encouraging deeper awareness. She teaches students to achieve this through making the connections between their mind and body, honoring where they are in their life and in their physical practice. Lori recently graduated from Ajna Yoga Training in Victoria, B.C.

Sheri’s yoga journey began while traveling in Israel in the early nineties with a sudden awakening or a spontaneous experience of the non-dual nature of existence. Several years later, while living in Asia, cycling and practicing regularly, she finally began to feel in her body and the mind-body-breath connection. The desire to teach led her to India to experience ashram life and deepen her understanding of yoga asana and philosophy. She became a Sivananda certified teacher in 2008. Upon returning to Canada in 2010 after eight years abroad, she obtained a second certification through Ajna Yoga here in Victoria. Her combined understanding of non duality and yoga, love of literature and people and entirely non striving approach, create a perfect environment for the self to be realized. She is happy to offer her ability to transmit non-dual awareness, as well as Hatha and Yin yoga instruction at various locations in town. For more information on non-dual awareness or yoga instruction please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
I am so grateful to have found Yoga. I am forever a student of Yoga on and off the mat. I believe each student is their best teacher. I aim to create a sacred space to explore movement and stillness using the breath as an anchor to the present moment. I completed my first Yoga Teacher Training at Yoga Vidya Gurukul: Institute for Research and Education in Yoga in Southern India.
I completed a second training in Canada at the Sanada Devi School of Yoga
which focused on Tantric Yoga Philosophy. The focus of this lineage is
chakra awareness within traditional Hatha asanas (postures), kriyas
(cleaning techniques) pranayama (breathing/energy practices) combined with
Ayurvedic principles. Currently, I am completing a Masters in Counselling
Psychology focusing on Yoga Therapy for various sectors of the Canadian
society that do not have access to regular classes.

Ken is Owner and Director of Bikram Yoga Victoria. Ken discovered yoga through the Bikram series about 7 years ago and has been in love ever since. Ken has a lengthy background in sport, fitness and health and wellness. Ken suffered for many years with chronic knee pain from years of competitive football and Track and Field. Like many people suffering from chronic pain, he had tried every form of treatment without relief, including 5 knee operations. No longer being able to enjoy the freedom of movement Ken had resigned himself to the sorrowful believe that pain would always be a part of his life. But,then came yoga, after his first Bikram class, Ken although challenged by many of the postures and the heat felt the benifits right away. He kept going, eventually becoming pain free for the first time in years. So impressed with his healing that in 2004 Ken decided to become a Bikram Instructor and studio owner.

His teachers and inspirations are all the people who have shared yoga with him. His background is in the field of body/mind education (Alexander Technique), where he has acquired an extensive experience in helping people get rid of excessive tension by improving their own sensory awareness. TarynStrong Certified Yoga and Pilates InstructorPlease see website for schedule and locations. Group classes and Private Sessions available.
Seeing a student before class, and then the transformation after class
(relaxed, rejuvenated, body tension minimized or gone) is why I love what I
do. I am so grateful to have the opportunity to guide people through a
journey of discovering one’s true self and mindfulness. I love sequencing
poses together that flow smoothly, balance strength, softness and
flexibility, while weaving in yogic philosophy and educating students on the
benefits of their practice. I encourage students to let go of expectations
and limitations and to just enjoy where they are in the pose both physically
and mentally. Students leave my class feeling relaxed, refreshed, grounded,
balanced, and at ease in both body and mind.

I am excited to share what I have learnt on my path to greater health and wellness with others. I love teaching yoga as it allows me a greater understanding of the human body and mind. I want to help others cultivate personal and universal compassion. I want to teach my students to understand, as my teacher has taught me, that we are all great teachers with something unique and valuable to share. That everything essential for living a joyous, abundant and full life is inside of each and every one of us. -Namaste – The divine light in me sees and recognizes the divine light in you.
